Ekurhuleni resumes housing registration process

Tuesday, August 15, 2017

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has resumed the process of verifying the application status of low-cost housing and registering new applicants.

The registration process resumed on Tuesday in the City of Ekurhuleni’s Southern Region Customer Care Centres.

The process, which began early in March this year, was halted in order to work out administration efficiency.

Municipal spokesperson Themba Gadebe said the process will ensure that new and old applications for low-cost housing are verified.

He said those who are not in the system but qualify will be registered on the national database of the housing needs register.

“Officials will work weekdays and weekends to ensure that a large number of people are attended to.  During registration, applicants are requested to bring along documents such as bar coded identity book or smart card, birth certificates of dependents, marriage certificates if married, divorce decree and pay slips,” Gadebe said.

Applicants should be over the age of 18.

In October 2017, the registration process will be open to Ekurhuleni residents based in the Northern Region and culminate with the Eastern Region.

Residents are urged to visit their nearest Customer Care Centres for more information. – SAnews.gov.za
