Thursday, May 5, 2011

Pretoria - All municipal offices of Ekurhuleni Metro will be closed on the upcoming municipal elections day, May 18.

The City's spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, said: "Council's administrative offices, libraries, selected rates halls and pay points, and other non-essential and non-emergency services will be closed on Wednesday, May 18."

However, Dlamini said the offices will reopen the following day on May 19.

"The closure of municipal offices follows the declaration made by President Jacob Zuma that May 18, the day of the local government elections, will be treated as a public holiday throughout the Republic," he said.

According to Dlamini, this is to enable employees to also participate in the municipal elections.

He emphasised that the performing of emergency and essential services will not be affected by the closure of offices.

"Residents are furthermore advised that refuse collection will not be affected on the day," he said.

The following call centre numbers will be available for any emergencies; 011 458 0911 or 10177 for life threatening emergencies and 086 054 3000 for service emergencies.
