Ekurhuleni CFO suspended

Wednesday, October 31, 2018

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has placed its Chief Financial Officer, Gugu Pride Malaza, on suspension following a decision by council during a meeting last Thursday.

On Tuesday, acting mayoral spokesperson Phakamile Mbengashe said on 26 October, Malaza was issued a letter requesting her to provide reasons she should not be suspended.

“Upon receiving a response from Malaza, the city manager found that there was no basis for her not to be suspended. Malaza was suspended effectively on Monday, 29 October 2018,” Mbengashe said.

Malaza is suspended pending the finalisation of an investigation into alleged non-disclosure of information regarding her dismissal from the South African Broadcasting Corporation, as required by Regulation 11 of the Systems Act of 2000.

“Further investigations are currently being conducted by the city and should be concluded within the next three months,” Mbengashe said.

Media reports in March last year indicated that Malaza had landed the job at Ekurhuleni, despite having been dismissed by the public broadcaster for procurement and financial irregularities. – SAnews.gov.za
