Pretoria – Over 3000 youngsters, seeking advice and information on career opportunities, have visited the 2014 Ekurhuleni Career Expo.

The four-day expo, which is currently underway at the Alberton Civic Centre in Ekurhuleni, is being hosted by the municipality for the second time.

The expo is aimed at exposing graduates, school leavers and young entrepreneurs to various employment opportunities available at companies in and around Ekurhuleni.

"We are a municipality that hosts the biggest manufacturing sector in South Africa and can be called the workshop of Africa. We are also home to the continent's busiest airport. These two elements are very relevant and key to our economic development," said Executive Mayor Cllr Mondli Gungubele during the official opening of the Expo on Monday.

"The hosting of this exhibition thus fits into our strategic vision which involves re-organising and revitalising the industry so that our communities can benefit from job-creating economic growth," he said.

Some of the exhibitors at the two-day expo include South African Airways, SA Express and Mango, Ekurhuleni East and West Colleges, Boston City Campus, Siyafunda CTC and the Peermont Education Trust, engineering, procurement and construction management specialists, Deltron Consulting and civil engineering and project management consultancy, Epitome Consulting.

Various government departments and parastatals are also present to share information on their job creation and entrepreneurship projects, including the Departments of Public Enterprises, Public Works, Energy and the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation.

The expo continues until Thursday. Doors will open at 09:00 and close at 17:00. – SAnews.gov.za
