Pretoria - Employees of the Department of Education had to be evacuated on Thursday after a fire broke out at the Sol Platjie building.
The department's national and provincial communication Chief Director Dr Granville Whittle told BuaNews that the fire broke out at about 8am. Employees were evacuated while emergency personnel tried to get the fire under control.
"It's not serious. It started at the 6th floor, where three offices caught fire. The rest of the offices are safe. We expect that by tomorrow everything will be back to normal," Dr Whittle said.
Staff were sent home and told to return on Friday as the building will need to be inspected by fire personnel.
Dr Granville said it was not clear what started the fire and forensic investigators were currently busy trying to establish the cause
