Economic transformation necessary for SA: BUSA

Pretoria - In order to grow and fulfil its development goals, South Africa needs to achieve economic transformation, says Business Unity South Africa (BUSA).

"Equally important for both BUSA and South Africa is the achievement of comprehensive economic transformation," new chief executive officer Nomaxabiso Majokweni said on Thursday as she marked her first day on the job following the resignation of Jerry Vilakazi.

"My vision is to strive towards a future where we can refer to business in South Africa as 'just business' and not black or white business," she said.

In July, the Black Management Forum quit BUSA, saying that the voice of black business was suppressed.

Majokweni said more business participation was needed within BUSA. "A greatly improved economic performance for South Africa to alleviate unemployment and poverty will very much depend on finding more consensuses around key issues," she explained.

The formation of BUSA in 2003 was the commencement of an inclusive process to forge unity between black and white business in the country.

"Economic transformation and business unity are therefore the twin pillars on which I want to build my vision for BUSA," said Majokweni. - BuaNews
