Pretoria - International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister Ebrahim Ebrahim is scheduled to travel to Yemen for consultations over the release of the South African hostage, Pierre Korkie.

Korkie and his wife, Yolande, were abducted in the city of Taiz in May.

The kidnappers had released the wife last week without ransom, but they are now demanding the equivalent of R30 million for Pierre's release.

“It is hoped that the visit by Deputy Minister Ebrahim to Yemen will result in Mr Korkie being released unharmed and as soon as possible,” department spokesperson Clayson Monyela said on Friday.

Yolande, who spoke to the media in Johannesburg yesterday, said her husband is in bad health and needs urgent medical attention. – SAnews.gov.za
