Pretoria - Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Elizabeth Thabethe will lead a business delegation to the fifth Investment and Trade Initiative (ITI) in Zimbabwe.

The ITI, which aims to increase trade and investment between South Africa and Zimbabwe, will kick off on Monday.

Thabethe said the ITI will provide a platform to strengthen bilateral relations, both economic and political, between South Africa and Zimbabwe and will promote intra-Africa trade as well as integration of the continent.

“The ITI comes as a follow-up on four previous successful ITIs that took place in Zimbabwe and have produced economic benefits for both countries,” said Thabethe on Friday.

Sectors targeted for the ITI are agriculture and agro-processing, built environment professionals, oil and gas, mining and capital equipment as well as electro technical.

The programme for the ITI will include bilateral meetings, site visits, mini exhibitions, and business to business meetings.

The ITI is part of the Department of Trade and Industry’s (the dti) Export and Investment Promotion Strategy that focuses on targeted high growth markets with the objective of creating investment and export opportunities for South African companies and promoting South Africa as a trade and investment destination.

The ITI will conclude on Friday. - SAnews.gov.za
