The Deputy Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr Nomalungelo Gina, will address aspiring young engineers at a graduation ceremony taking place in Johannesburg today.
Gina is set to deliver the keynote speech at the graduation ceremony for the Next Engineers programme, a global initiative designed to improve college and career readiness while promoting diversity within the engineering profession.
The ceremony will be hosted in partnership with GE Vernova and PROTEC, together with the University of the Witwatersrand and the Kutitiva Foundation.
The collaboration highlights the Department of Science, Technology, and Innovation’s (DSTI) ongoing dedication to promoting youth involvement in the National System of Innovation through strategic partnerships with industry and educational institutions, including GE Vernova and PROTEC.
The ceremony will honour 43 learners who have completed the programme, representing the second cohort to graduate.
Next Engineers is a programme that was initially funded by the GE Foundation in 2021. Its purpose is to inspire and equip young individuals to pursue careers in engineering, contributing to South Africa’s efforts to address the skills gap in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The ceremony will take place at the Linder Auditorium, Education Campus of Wits University, from 9 am to 12 pm. – SAnews.gov.za
