Dept ready to host military veterans conference

Pretoria – The Director General of the Department of Military Veterans Tsepe Motumi says it is all systems go for Military Veterans Conference set to take place in Boksburg today.

"We are excited as the Department of Military Veterans that all preparations are in place for the conference that will be attended by 600 military veterans coming from various military veterans formations such as SANMVA, AZANLA, former TBVC states MVA's, CMVO, MK Military ex Liberation Military War Veterans, SACC, APLAMVA not affiliated to SANMVA and Ex Combatants Foundation,” he said.

The military veterans from across the country are expected to converge in Boksburg to launch the new umbrella association for military veterans. They will also deliberate on the constitution for the umbrella association.

The body is aimed at ensuring accelerated delivery of benefits outlined in the Military Veterans Act to military veterans and their dependents, to enhance the development of a common and shared vision among military veterans and other stakeholders as well as play an important role in enhancing social cohesion, reconciliation and nation building.

Also to be discussed at the conference will be the experiences, achievements and challenges that faced the outgoing SANMVA.

The conference will be held under theme: Uniting Military Veterans for access to benefits.

“This conference is truly historical and it will open a new chapter in the history of military veterans,” said Motumi.

He said the department would ensure that the umbrella association works closely with the department as government as well as other stakeholders and representatives of military veterans in a fair, transparent and accountable manner. – SAnews.gov.za
