Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has accepted the resignation of Dan Moyane, whose membership to the MDDA board was due to expire in December.
Moyane served the MDDA board as the commercial broadcast media appointee through the National Association of Broadcasters (NABSA) in terms of Section 4(1) (c) of the MDDA Act from January 2009 for a three year term of office.
According to a statement by the MDDA, Moyane resigned due to a "tremendous workload".
"In his letter to the President, Mr. Moyane stated that the reason for his resignation is purely personal constraints, which led to his availability to the MDDA being less and less since middle of 2010. He felt honoured and privileged to serve on the MDDA Board for the past two years after his appointment by the President of the Republic in 2009," said the MDDA.
The President, through the Minister in the Presidency Collins Chabane, thanked Moyane for his dedication and invaluable contribution in promoting an enabling environment for media development and diversity in our country and wished him success in his future endeavors.
MDDA Chief Executive Lumko Mtimde also thanked him for his "sterling work, leadership and guidance in the governance of the agency as it successfully implemented its mandate enshrined in the MDDA Act".
The National Association of Broadcasters has been notified of the developments and will accordingly recommend a person/s to the President, who will, in terms of Section 4 (1) (c) of the MDDA Act appoint someone to fill the vacancy for the unexpired term of office in terms of Section 7 (2) of the Act. - BuaNews
