D-Day for matrics to register for finals

Thursday, March 15, 2012

Pretoria - Matric candidates who intend to sit for the Grade 12 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations in October have until today to register.

This includes full-time learners currently in Grade 12 at a public or private school, part-time learners and repeat candidates - such as those who failed their NSC previously and would like to repeat either the failed subjects or the entire grade.

To qualify for registration, learners must be writing on the South African curriculum, must have proof that they have completed and passed Grade 10 and 11 and must have completed school-based assessment requirements for Grade 10 and 11.

According to the Department of Basic Education, all candidates must fill in a registration form designed and issued by the department in consultation with the provincial assessment body.

"The registration forms will be processed and submitted to the examination centre for checking and verification before the start of the final NSC examination," says the department.

Part-time candidates can register at the school where they are attending lessons, or may contact the district office where they will be referred to an approved examination centre to register.

Part time and repeat candidates are required to produce a valid green bar-coded ID book and their results from Grade 10 and 11.

In the case of repeat candidates, proof that they have previously written the NSC will also be required.
