Pretoria - The continuous efforts being made within the blood transfusion industry to maintain a safe and sustainable blood supply will be the main focus during the 31st South African National Blood Transfusion Congress.
The three-day congress, starting from 16 to 18 November in Johannesburg, will be attended by national and international experts in the field of blood transfusion.
They are expected to address delegates on the challenges facing South Africa and the region.
Chairman of South African National Blood Services Organising Committee, Ravi Reddy, said the congress would provide a platform for delegates to showcase their achievements and acquire vital information on scientific developments and also provide delegates with an opportunity to participate in the various scientific sessions.
"The scientific sessions will focus on blood procurement, maintaining safety of the blood supply, challenges facing developing countries and additional topics of regional interest," said Reddy.
The sessions will highlight the challenges and success stories related to the procurement of blood, testing strategies and appropriate utilisation of this precious resource.
The congress will be dedicated to presenting up-to-date information and research findings in blood banking and transfusion medicine practices.
Among the experts attending the congress include medical technologists, medical technicians, nurses, phlebotomists and donor management, amongst others
