Pretoria – Minister of Higher Education and Training Blade Nzimande has expressed his deepest condolences on behalf of the department and all its stakeholders to the family of Zanele Moyo.
The daughter of the Zimbabwean Minister of Higher Education Jonathan Moyo, Zanele Moyo’s body, was discovered in her room on Saturday morning. She was in the first year of her International Relations degree programme at the University of Cape Town.
“It is with a sense of deep shock and sadness that we have received the news …. The fact that she died while a student at one of our institutions of higher learning, the University of Cape Town, brings the late Ms Moyo’s death even closer to home,” said the Minister.
He said it was “profoundly distressing” that she had passed away at the tender age of 20.
“I wish to take this opportunity to express my deepest condolences - and on behalf of the South African Department of Higher Education and Training and all our stakeholders - specifically to the family of the deceased, and more generally to the people of Zimbabwe who have lost a life that would no doubt have made a considerable contribution to the advancement of her country of birth.”
He said he hoped the results of the post mortem examination will get to the bottom of her untimely death. – SAnews.gov.za
