Pretoria - Government is saddened by the death of five-year-old Tinyiko Mogwe, who was killed by a 21-year-old man.

“Government expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of five-year-old Tinyiko Mongwe after he was brutally killed by a 21-year-old man, who has been admitted to hospital after the community attacked him,” said the Ministry of Police said in a statement on Wednesday.

The ministry said government is shocked and devastated by this heinous crime.

“Our deepest condolences to the family at this trying time. Tinyiko’s death has sent shockwaves throughout the community and the country. We cannot imagine any pain more severe than that suffered when a child dies… Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Tinyiko’s life was a blessing to all who had the privilege to know him.”

Police Deputy Minister Bongani Mkongi called on community members to allow police space to do their work instead of taking the law into their own hands.

“Government calls on all South Africans to keep the Mogwe family in their thoughts and prayers. It is the responsibility of every South African to protect our children’s right to life,” said the Deputy Minister. – SAnews.gov.za
