Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has sent condolences to the Mbebe family following the passing away of Mvuzo Mbebe.
Mbebe, who passed away after a battle with cancer on Monday, was the former 2013 African Cup of Nations and African Nations Championship Local Organising Committee Chief Executive Officer and SABC Executive.
“On behalf of government and the entire South African population, we convey our most heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and relatives. His death is indeed an enormous loss not only to his family but to the country as a whole. May his soul rest in peace,” said the President.
He described Mbebe as a fervent activist for transformation in sports.
“Mr Mbebe was one of the leaders in the South African sports fraternity who had over the years contributed immensely to sports development, from fighting racial segregation to administering and developing sports in a democratic dispensation.” - SAnews.gov.za
