Cabinet has expressed its condolences to the families of the six babies who passed away following an outbreak of Klebsiella pneumoniae at Thelle Mogoerane Hospital in Vosloorus.

Addressing a post-Cabinet media briefing on Thursday in Tshwane, Communications Minister Nomvula Mokonyane said the outbreak is currently under control.

The outbreak was identified at the hospital’s neonatal unit in July.

Recently, Health Minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, announced the transfer of babies and their mothers from Thelle Mogoerane Hospital.

They were moved to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

“This gives the provincial Health Department an opportunity to scrub down and decontaminate the environment, and also address the structural issues without any disturbance,” Mokonyane said.

Cabinet further sent it condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in a bus accident on the N1-25 near Tobias in Waterberg District Municipality in Limpopo.

The accident happened on Monday when a bus reportedly travelling from Zambia to Gauteng overturned.

“Cabinet also wishes those injured a speedy recovery,” Mokonyane said. – SAnews.gov.za
