Pretoria - The Office of the Premier of the North West on Wednesday visited the family of two siblings, who passed away after consuming potato chips and water from a 25-litre container in Makgobistad.
The boys, aged 10 and 12, were learners at Makgobi Primary School. They passed away after falling sick on Tuesday. The two had eaten the potato chips and drank tap water at home after returning from school.
“We send our heartfelt condolences to the family affected by this tragedy. We will do whatever we can do from our side to provide support to the family during this difficult time,” said Premier Supra Mahumapelo.
According to a teacher, the school was informed that the children fell sick and had died at the local clinic in the late evening.
The office of the Premier said the family is awaiting a medical report on the incident that involved three siblings. The third sibling is recuperating at the Bophelong Hospital in Mahikeng.
The provincial Department of Social Development will visit the family to assist with counselling.
Meanwhile, Makgobi Primary School will today host a memorial service at Makgobistad Community Hall. – SAnews.gov.za
