East London - The community media sectoral Imbizo led by Communications Minister Faith Muthambi, is currently underway, at the East London Golf Club in the Eastern Cape.
Themed “Together we move South Africa forward”, the Imbizo will provide a meaningful opportunity to reflect and engage on successes and failures, opportunities and challenges of building as sustainable community media in South Africa in the Eastern Cape.
Guided by the National Development Plan (NDP), government is focusing its energy on both attacking poverty and expanding an innovative economy, so that in the next decades and beyond, people will need resources and capabilities to become their own engines of development.
The Imbizo is the beginning of a government journey where by 2030; the information, communication and technology will underpin the development dynamic information society and knowledge economy that is more inclusive and prosperous.
A seamless information infrastructure will meet the needs of citizens, business, and public sector as well as providing access services required for effective economic and social participation.-SAnews.gov.za
