Pretoria - The Auditor-General has given Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane's office a clean audit for the second year in succession.

Mokonyane listed some of her office's successes during the year under review, including the establishment of the Public Liaison Hotline. This project was initiated in collaboration with all departments and local government in Gauteng to provide a single entry point for service information queries and complaints.

The hotline is fully functional and intersects with other systems across the Gauteng Provincial Government and in local government to ensure that citizens have access to information and a central place to make enquiries or complaints.

"The achievement of these unqualified reports is more than a mere symbolic achievement for us. It is the result of hard work, responsible financial controls and keeping a tight rein on the administrative environment," said Mokonyane.

Mokonyane said under the leadership of the Gauteng Planning Commission (GPC), the implementation of the Outcomes-Based Approach, approved by the Cabinet in 2010 was a significant focus of the 2010/ 11 financial year.

"The Programme of Action (PAO) is the foundation of government service delivery. It focuses resources into priority areas and provides the framework for monitoring and evaluating service delivery," she said.

Vision 2055, a long range planning framework that will inform all development in the province and the Spatial Development Framework were approved in the year under review.

"In 2011/12 financial year, the Vision 2055 document will be part of a wide consultation process to ensure that all stakeholders are aware of and are part of the process," she noted.

Mokonyane added that the annual report is the reflection of the strides made and hurdles surmounted in pursuit of the political mandate given to government by the people of Gauteng.

During the year under review, the Office of the Premier revised the Provincial Anti-Corruption Strategic Framework and hosted a successful Anti-Corruption Summit.

In addition, Mokonyane highlighted that communication was at the centre of the efforts to deliver services to the citizens of Gauteng. She said improving access to information about service delivery and mechanisms to facilitate service delivery were key features of the activities in her office in 2010/11.

"Public participation such as izimbizo were held across the province, along with Economic Opportunity Roadshows which provided citizens of Gauteng with information on opportunities and access to services," concluded Mokonyane. - BuaNews
