Pretoria - The late former President of the Constitutional Court and Chief Justice Arthur Chaskalson will be granted a Special Official Funeral, the Presidency said.
Chaskalson died at Milpark hospital on Saturday after a brief illness.
"This category of the funeral is reserved for distinguished persons specifically designated by the President of the Republic of South Africa," the Presidency said in a statement.
Chaskalson served as the first President of the Constitutional Court. He also served as Chief Justice of South Africa from November 2001 until his retirement in 2005.
All national flags will fly at half-mast at all flag stations in the country from Monday until the 7th of December.
There will be a private family funeral which will take place on Monday, at the Westpark Cemetery in Johannesburg with President Jacob Zuma expected to attend.
Government will also arrange an official memorial service.
Meanwhile, President Zuma extended his condolences to the Premier of the Free State and the provincial government on the tragic death of Health MEC Fundiswa "Fezi" Ngubentombi and her protector Seargent BC Motaung in a road crash at the weekend.
The MEC had attended a rally and launch of a day care centre by the President in Qwaqwa at the time of the accident.
"We are deeply shocked at the MEC's passing. This horror crash has robbed us of a hard-working, dedicated and energetic MEC. She was wholeheartedly committed to her work and was to be found in every corner of the province, working hard to improve the living conditions of the people," Zuma said.
He said her death was a great loss of a young life.
"We are deeply saddened. We extend our condolences to the provincial government, to her family and to the family of her protector Sgt Motaung. May their souls rest in peace." - SAnews.gov.za
