Calls to support National Netball team

Pretoria - Gauteng Sport, Arts Culture and Recreation MEC Molebatsi Bopape has called on South Africans to support the National Netball team as they head to the World Cup tournament in Australia.

“The team left the country on Mandela Day, 18 July. We believe they carry with them the Mandela Magic to bring the trophy home to continue the celebration of the spirit and legacy left to us by the former state President,” MEC Bopape said.

The World Cup tournament will be held from 7 August until 16 August, a significant month for South Africans as it honours women.

“Their win will, like the women of 1956, go a long way in rewriting the story of South Africa’s transformation and triumph.

“As we mark the 59th anniversary of the Women’s March team’s success will indeed bring pride and joy to the women of South Africa. We hope that they will represent the country well and go all the way until the finish line,” she said.

The team arrived in New Zealand on Tuesday where they will play two test matches with New Zealand before going to Australia. – SAnews.gov.za
