Pretoria - Cabinet has conveyed its sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Martha Mahlangu, who passed away at Steve Biko hospital last week.

Mahlangu was the mother of freedom fighter Solomon Mahlangu, who was executed by the apartheid regime after being wrongfully accused on charges of murder and terrorism.

For her active role in the struggle against the apartheid regime, the City of Tshwane announced on Monday that it will accord her a Provincial Official Funeral. Flags will also be flown at half-mast to pay homage to her.

Mahlangu will be buried on Saturday.

On Wednesday, hundreds of people from all walks of life, including government officials and politicians, attended Mahlangu’s memorial service in Mamelodi. – SAnews.gov.za
