Cabinet reminds taxpayers to submit returns

Thursday, July 10, 2014

Pretoria - As tax season is officially underway, Cabinet has encouraged taxpayers to submit their individual tax returns.

“Taxes enable government to fund the country’s development plans. Every taxpayer, who submits an accurate return on time, plays their part in moving South Africa forward,” Communications Minister Faith Muthambi said during a post Cabinet briefing on Thursday.

The 2014 tax season was launched on 1 July 2014. The deadline for the manual submission of returns is 26 September 2014. The deadline for all non-provisional taxpayers is 21 November 2014.

The deadline for provisional taxpayers using e-filing is 30 January 2015.

Meanwhile, Cabinet has also called on young people to apply now for tertiary institutions, in line with the Department of Higher Education and Training’s Apply Now campaign.

Through this campaign, Minister Muthambi said, learners are given with the necessary information to make informed career choices and apply on time.

“It will also contribute to averting the pressure that students face at the beginning of the academic year,” she said.

Cabinet further reminded learners to make use of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, which provides financial aid to academically deserving but financially needy students. – SAnews.gov.za
