Pretoria – Government says it will continue to honour the legacy of former President Nelson Mandela and his generation of leaders for the massive contribution they made to the country’s liberation.

Addressing the media during the post Cabinet briefing on Thursday, Public Service and Administration Minister and the Acting Minister of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Lindiwe Sisulu said the National Executive welcomed the opening of the newly revamped Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory.

President Jacob Zuma on Monday officially unveiled the newly refurbished centre, where South Africans and the global community will view and enjoy the legacy of the formidable life and times of Mandela.

“These resources are an integral part of our nation’s heritage, in particular our liberation heritage. They are our nation’s treasures and need to be preserved,” Sisulu said.

Praising sterling performance

Sisulu also praised the recent sterling performance by Bafana Bafana, who unexpectedly recorded a memorable victory against European and world champions Spain.

Bafana beat the reigning world champions 1-nil in an international friendly played at FNB Stadium on Tuesday.

“Cabinet praised the sterling performances by Bafana Bafana, the Proteas and the Springboks and also Itumeleng Khune, who was recently named the 2013 Sports Star of the Year.

“Cabinet calls on all South Africans to play their part in rallying behind our national teams,” said Sisulu. - SAnews.gov.za
