Cabinet: Lomu made a huge impact

Pretoria – Cabinet has extended its condolences to the government of New Zealand, family, friends and the New Zealand Rugby Union on the loss of the rugby superstar, Jonah Tali Lomu.

This is according to Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe, who briefed media on Thursday on Cabinet’s fortnightly meeting.

Lomu was described as having made a huge impact on the game of rugby.

The left wing died at his home in Auckland, New Zealand, at the age of 40 on Wednesday. He had been fighting kidney disease.

Lomu rose to stardom in the 1995 Rugby World Cup which was hosted in South Africa.  He played for New Zealand from 1995 to 2002 and was capped 63 times. In 2011, he was inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame for his contribution to the Rugby World Cup.

Cabinet also extended condolences to the family and friends of the Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, Pamela Tshwete.

The Deputy Minister’s mother, Mama Ruth Nomzi Zondeki, has passed away. – SAnews.gov.za
