Cape Town - Cape Town's City Traffic Services will be out in full force this weekend as an estimated 40 000 people are expected at the annual J & B Met to be held at Kenilworth.

A further 8 000 people are also expected for the Mardi Gras at the William Herbert Sports Fields.

"Saturday is going to be a busy day for Cape Town Traffic Services as they regulate traffic flow in the vicinity of the Kenilworth Race Course," said Merle Lourens, spokesperson for Cape Town Traffic Services.

"To cater for pedestrians, a traffic free zone will be implemented along Racecourse Road between Kenilworth Road and Wetton Road at 8am and to provide an emergency route in case of accidents," said Ms Lourens.

Motorists are also warned that no parking will be allowed along Rosmead Ave between Kenilworth Road & Wetton Road.

About 55 traffic officers, she said, will also be on duty to assist pedestrians and direct traffic at both venues and motorists are requested to be patient and drive with caution.

According to Ms Lourens a shuttle service will ferry patrons to the J & B Met.

The cycle lane along Wetton Road will be cordoned off to provide a contra-flow route for the shuttle service.
