Business as usual at SAA

Pretoria - Operations at South African Airways (SAA) have not been disrupted following strike action, said the airline.

“SAA would like to assure all its customers that there has been absolutely no disruption to its flight schedule and that all operations continue as per normal. The airline is committed to business continuity, and will do all that is necessary to avoid any inconvenience to its customers,” the airline said in a statement.

Members of the South African Transport & Allied Workers’ Union (Satawu) downed tools this week over wages.

“This is due to the fact that the recalcitrant management of SAA has unilaterally implemented their rejected initial offer of 6.23% of basic salary and all other benefits, while the negotiations were still on-going and workers were still considering the latest offer of 6.50% across the board with all the benefits,” said the union in a statement on Wednesday.

“With 34 individuals participating in the strike currently, there has been no impact whatsoever on SAA’s operations. SAA is still open to discussion and is eager to reach an amicable solution with all the parties concerned,” said the airline. – SAnews.gov.za
