Pretoria – The Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium, Pieter De Crem, will today visit Simonstown Naval Base in Cape Town.
He will be accompanied by South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Defence, Thabang Makwetla.
Princess Astrid of the Kingdom of Belgium will lead the delegation, accompanied by more than six Belgian ministers.
“The aim of the visit is to strengthen and broaden the economic cooperation and trade relationship between South Africa and Belgium,” said the Department of Defence and Military Veterans on Monday.
De Crem, who also serves as the Defence Minister in Belgium, will hold bilateral discussions with Makwetla on Tuesday in Pretoria.
The bilateral meeting will be used as a platform to exchange ideas on how to strengthen the relationships on common security matters, with specific focus on the Great Lakes region. – SAnews.gov.za
