Basic Education Laws Amendment Bill published for comment

Friday, October 13, 2017

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will today publish the Draft Basic Education Laws Amendment Bill in the Government Gazette, for public comment.

Minister Motshekga has invited all interested persons and organisations to submit their comments on the Bill by 10 November 2017.

During the process of developing the draft Bill, all the provincial education departments were consulted and it was presented to the Heads of Education Departments Committee and the Council of Education Ministers.

The department has also briefed a number of organisations such as school governing body associations and unions involved in the education sector on the content of the draft Bill.

“Some of the organisations and provincial education departments have already provided the department with certain written comments,” the department said.

These structures and Cabinet have approved the draft Bill for publication in the Government Gazette for public comment.

After the closing date for the submission of comments, the comments that have been received by the department will be analysed and considered for possible incorporation into the draft Bill.

Comments already in the department's possession will also be considered at that time.

Any person who, or organisation that, has already submitted comments is welcome to submit further comments.

The department reminds interested parties that the Bill is not a final document and that it may change noticeably when the department revises it on the basis of the comments received.

Comments should indicate the name and detailed contact information of the person or organisation submitting them, and should be directed to the Director-General, Private Bag X895, Pretoria, 0001, for attention: Adv.
