Pretoria – A 67-year-old Gauteng attorney has appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of corruption.

Godfrey Sibiya appeared in court on Monday, where he was granted R2 000 bail.

Sibiya was nabbed in Parktown by the Hawks when they conducted an entrapment operation on Friday.

“The attorney offered Hawks members a R50 000 bribe so that they could stop investigations against his clients.

“The man was allegedly representing five Health Department employees, who were being investigated for allegedly selling jobs within the department for a price ranging between R5 000 and R6 000 in 2016,” the Hawks said.

Sibiya’s case was postponed to 18 May 2017 for further investigation. – SAnews.gov.za
