Army not called in for Durban march

Tuesday, October 9, 2018

Acting KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, has slammed media reports claiming that the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) was on Monday deployed to a march at the Durban City Hall.

“Police management was informed of the planned march and deployed police officers accordingly.

“The SANDF, which also had a planned event at the City Hall were never involved in the policing of the march, as it is not within their mandate,” Mkhwanazi said.

He appealed to the media to report with integrity and to refrain from misleading the public by not verifying facts. – SAnews.gov.za
