Alleged drug dealer to appear in PE court

Pretoria - A 33-year-old man from Kwazakhele in Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape, is expected to appear before the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court on Monday, after he was arrested for dealing in mandrax, on Thursday.

The suspect has been on the Hawks’ radar for some time and when his white Conquest was spotted at Truckers’ Inn in Motherwell on Thursday morning, the Hawks pounced on him.

Upon searching his vehicle, the Hawks found 28 000 mandrax tablets in two boxes, which were hidden inside a black sports bag.

The mandrax recovered is valued at R1.4 million.

The suspect’s cell phone and vehicle were seized. The Hawks in the Eastern Cape have recovered over 70 000 mandrax tablets in the last few months. The Hawks are still in the process of dismantling a syndicate which transports mandrax to Port Elizabeth. – SAnews.gov.za
