All roads lead to Giyani for Freedom Day

Tuesday, April 26, 2016

Pretoria – The town of Giyani in Limpopo will be a hive of activity on Wednesday when South Africa celebrates Freedom Day.

Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) Acting Director General Donald Liphoko said the day serves as a platform to promote unity and a common agenda of building a united and prosperous country.

“Government calls on all South Africans to celebrate this day by joining activities planned in their communities and hoist the South African flag high.

“We must jealously guard the gains of democracy and continue to build on the fruits of our freedom. Our society is built on the values of democracy, equality and respect for all,” he said on Tuesday.

President Jacob Zuma is expected to lead the main Freedom Day at Giyani Stadium. Government encouraged South Africans residing in and around Limpopo to attend the event to listen to the President as he delivers the keynote address.

Those who are unable to make it to Giyani can follow the proceedings live on the following media platforms: SABC 2, SABC News (DSTV Channel 404), Thobela FM, Munghana Lonene, Phalaphala FM, SAfm, eNCA, Power FM/Capricorn FM and ANN7.

The day will be celebrated under the theme ‘Together building better communities – Local Government is everyone’s business’. – SAnews.gov.za
