African Energy meeting underway

Wednesday, June 2, 2010

Pretoria - Energy ministers from across the continent are currently meeting to discuss ways of scaling up energy access to meet the Millennium Development Goals.

The Forum of Energy Ministers of Africa, which takes place in Egypt, provides a platform for political leadership to provide policy direction in the energy sector, for collaboration and the exchange of experiences.

The forum will also develop a coherent energy strategy for Sub-Saharan Africa, including re-strategising in order to increase modern energy supply access.

South African Energy Minister Dipuo Peters is expected to use the platform to gather concerns, aspirations and the challenges facing other African energy ministers in their respective countries in Africa.

The minister may also use this information to champion African Energy issues in other forums such as the G8 Energy Ministers Meeting, Multilateral meetings and donor forums.
