Pretoria – South Africans are in for a treat this month when the 2014 Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) show takes to the skies.

Tshwane Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa has urged the public, especially the youth, to attend the 2014 AAD show at the Waterkloof Air Base, in Pretoria, on 17 September.

One of the highlights of the show will be a real-time building of an aircraft in four days by a South African company during the show by a team of 40 people. The aircraft will be flown on the last day of the air-show.

Ramokgopa said the programs at the show are designed to raise awareness and promote maths and science to learners.

He said the show will also promote the skills required in the industry and other related industries.

“This is a perfect opportunity to expose your kids, family and friends to the spirit of aerospace and the vast opportunities that exist for business, career and leisure opportunities,” Ramokgopa said in a media briefing on Wednesday.

The aerospace industry is a multibillion rand business which makes a significant economic contribution to the country.

“AAD 2012 contributed in excess of 1 billion from business that was procured from the exhibition, tourism and hospitality,” he said, adding that the demand to exhibit at AAD has increased significantly. - SAnews.gov.za
