SADC Double Troika to meet over Lesotho

Thursday, September 14, 2017

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) will on Friday convene a Double Troika Summit of Heads of State and Government in Pretoria.

The summit, which will be chaired by President Jacob Zuma as the chairperson of the regional bloc, will discuss the recent developments in Lesotho, the Presidency said on Thursday.

The recent political and security development in Lesotho saw the Commander of the Lesotho Defence Force, General Motsomotso, being assassinated at his military headquarters.

Following the shooting, SADC sent a Ministerial Fact Finding Mission to the kingdom to assess the situation and determine the required intervention.

“The summit will be briefed on the report of the Ministerial Fact Finding Mission to the Kingdom of Lesotho, conducted by the rogue elements fingered in the Phumaphi Commission of Inquiry Report, in order to chart a way forward on the necessary support to the Kingdom of Lesotho,” said the Presidency.

President Zuma is expected to be joined by Heads of State and Government from the Kingdom of Swaziland, Republic of Angola, Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of Namibia.

The summit will be preceded by a ministerial meeting in the morning of the same day. - SAnews.gov.za
