Pretoria - The City of Johannesburg beat off opposition from other international cities to be chosen as the host city for the 4th World Conference on Doping in Sport in 2013.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced on Sunday that its Foundation Board had selected the South African city as the host.

WADA had also received formal bids from Dallas in United States, and Sochi in Russia. Two other cities - Kuwait City in Kuwait and Ljubljana in Slovenia - withdrew their bids.

WADA President John Fahey said the 4th World Conference would be an important opportunity to take stock of progress made in the fight against doping and to plot the way forward.

"We look forward to working with the City of Johannesburg to prepare and host the event, and we thank all bid cities for their interest and the quality of their submissions," he added.
