The South African Weather Service (SAWS) says a surface trough will dominate the country's interior, bringing isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms over the central and eastern parts this week.
Temperatures will be cool at times but otherwise warm to hot, with very hot conditions in places.
Monday’s forecast indicates partly cloudy conditions, with temperatures ranging from cool to warm and hot in places. Isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers are expected, becoming widespread in Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.
The weather service has issued the following warnings for Monday:
- Yellow Level 4 Warning: Severe thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours, hail and excessive lightning are expected over the extreme south-central parts of Limpopo, the highveld and escarpment of Mpumalanga (except the extreme south-western parts), and the western and north-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal. These conditions are expected to result in flooding and damage to infrastructure and settlements.
- Yellow Level 2 Warning: Severe thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours, strong gusty winds, hail and lightning are expected along the coast and adjacent interior of KwaZulu-Natal between Port Edward and Mtubatuba. These conditions are expected to result in localised flooding and damage to infrastructure and settlements.
- Yellow Level 1 Warning: Severe thunderstorms are expected over the extreme north-eastern escarpment areas of the Eastern Cape, the eastern parts of the Free State, the southern parts of Gauteng and the extreme south-western parts of Mpumalanga. These conditions are expected to result in localised flooding, damage to settlements, property and temporary structures, and localised disruption to power supply and communications.
