Bontebok National Park will begin a phased reopening next month, following extensive rehabilitation work after the flood damage experienced in May 2026.
“Significant progress has been made in restoring affected infrastructure, making it possible to safely reopen parts of the park to visitors while rehabilitation work continues in other areas,” the South African National Parks (SANParks) said.
The first phase, which begins on 1 August 2026, will include six self-catering chalets, the camping site, and the Aloe Hill, Acacia, and Termite hiking trails.
The eight riverside chalets affected by the floods are still undergoing refurbishment and are therefore not yet available for reservations.
Die Stroom Picnic Site and the Bushbuck Trail will also remain closed until rehabilitation work is complete.
“A phased reopening approach will continue, with additional facilities and visitor experiences becoming available as restoration work progresses. Updates on the reopening of these facilities will be communicated as they become available.
