SANDF Chief redeployed

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma, as Commander in Chief, has appointed South African National Defence Force Chief (SANDF) Godfrey Ngwenya as ambassador designate to the Republic of Angola.

The announcement was made by Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Lindiwe Sisulu, on Monday.

In a statement, the department said the appointment was most fitting as General Ngwenya was an astute and accomplished natural leader, who diligently served the country and inspired the loyal men and women in uniform to take a giant leap in ensuring that the citizens of South Africa are and feel safe.

The minister, the department and the senior management of the SANDF expressed their greatest gratitude to General Ngwenya for his steadfast allegiance and to also wish him and his entire family all of the best in his future endeavours.

Lieutenant General Themba Matanzima is the appointed acting Chief of the SANDF.

The handover parade will take place in January 2011 on a date which will be announced in due course.
