Sundowns win is a win for SA: Minister Mbalula

Pretoria - Sport and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula has congratulated Mamelodi Sundowns for their 3-0 win against the Egyptian powerhouse, Zamalek, at the weekend.

In a statement on Sunday, Minister Mbalula said the Sundowns win on Saturday in the first leg of the African Championship League Final was a win not just for the football club, but for South Africa. The match took place at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, Pretoria.

“Mamelodi Sundowns’ win was not just for the football club but for South Africa. They flew our flag high and represented us with distinction. As a nation of patriots, South Africans watched and the people of the City of Tshwane attended the match in their numbers showing maximum support.

“We send our congratulatory message to the team and its coach Pitso Mosimane and pledge our full support as they head into Sunday's second leg of the African Champions League final,” Minister Mbalula said. 

Minister Fikile Mbalula called on South Africans to unite and support Sundowns to the finishing line.

The two teams will play the second leg in Alexandria, Egypt, on 21 October. - SAnews.gov.za
