Pretoria – Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Jeff Radebe says it is every South African’s responsibility to save water and use it wisely.
The drop in national dam levels has necessitated water restrictions in a number of provinces across the country as the effects of the drought continue.
“We need to work together to support our communities in distress by reporting vandalism and theft of [water] infrastructure to the relevant authorities.
“Government is mindful of the hardship experienced by our people in the most affected areas and the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Drought has outlined the intensification of relief interventions to distressed areas,” the Minister said on Thursday in a briefing after Cabinet’s regular meeting.
Minister Radebe said the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, through the National Disaster Management Centre, continues to coordinate the country’s drought and water scarcity situation in collaboration with all the sectors and the private sector. - SAnews.gov.za
