Pretoria - Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini has conveyed condolences to the family and friends of North West Social Development MEC Kgakgamatso Morwagaashe-Nkewu, who died in a car accident near Vryburg on Thursday.
MEC Morwagaashe-Nkewu was travelling from Mahikeng to Taung to join the ANC Moses Kotane provincial chairperson and ANC Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa in an election campaign when her vehicle hit a cyclist on the N18 road near Vryburg and subsequently rolled.
The vehicle allegedly caught fire after the accident. The two VIP protectors were admitted at the Joe Morolong Hospital in Vryburg. One has since been discharged, while the other remains in a stable condition.
MEC Morwagaashe-Nkewu, 44, is from Molelema village in Taung. She was also the ANC provincial treasurer.
Minister Dlamini said she launched this year's Child Protection Week campaign in May with the MEC and she was a dedicated colleague and comrade. She said the country has lost a committed servant, who showed dedication to serve the most vulnerable people of South Africa.
“I feel that we have lost a dedicated comrade of the movement. Her genuine interest in the less fortunate of our country and what she did to try to improve the conditions of the poor was inspirational to me and many others...
“Her passing is a loss to the country and to all those who continue to contribute to the national effort to develop and transform our country for the benefit of all who live in it. May her soul rest in peace,” said Minister Dlamini.
