Thursday, April 7, 2016

Pretoria - The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has appointed four new councillors who will serve a four-year term in office.

The new councillors: Botlenyana Mokhele, Paris Mashile, Peter Zimri, and Keabetswe Modimoeng- were sworn into their new post by Judge de Villiers earlier today.

The ICASA council will now have 7 councillors in office.

Communications Minister Faith Muthambi has welcomed their appointment and expressed her confidence in their experience and abilities to steer ICASA towards achieving operational excellence as they begin their four-year term this week.

“These Councillors are capable leaders. Their appointments come at a crucial time, when the industry is going through the technological innovative cycle,” Minister Muthambi said on Thursday.

She believes that with their vast experience in the sector, "they are the right people to guide ICASA and ensure that it fulfils its mandate, while also incorporating good governance”.

The appointment of new councillors comes after a rigorous process by the Portfolio Committee on Communications. - SAnews.gov.za
