Pretoria - Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has sent her condolences to the families of the children who burnt to death, in a shack fire, in the North West at the weekend.
Five children and their cousin, aged between three and 16-years-old, were reportedly alone when a fire broke out in their shack at the Ramatlabana village, near Mahikeng, in the early hours of Monday.
It is believed the five siblings died in the fire, while their cousin was pulled to safety.
“I would like to send my condolences to their families and the entire Ramatlabana village. It is very unfortunate and heart-breaking that children as young as these had to die in such a horrific manner, while there were parents who were supposed to be taking care of them and making sure that the children are protected,” said Sisulu.
The Minister also urged the public to protect children wherever they are, be it schools, churches or play grounds. – SAnews.gov.za
