KZN Operation Fiela nets 224

Pretoria - KwaZulu-Natal authorities are continuing with their zero tolerance approach towards crime over the festive season through ongoing Operation Fiela activities across the province.

The police, assisted by Metro Police, Home Affairs officials and private security, held joint operations over two days where a total of 224 arrests were made for various crimes.

The crimes included murder, attempted murder, rape, theft, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, assault, possession of narcotics, housebreakings, malicious damage to property, illegally dealing in liquor as well as petty cases.

Acting National Commissioner of Police Lieutenant General Khomotso Phahlane said members recovered 163 grams of dagga, 13 heroine straws, three knives, one DVD player, one counterfeit CD, 96 500ml of quartz of beer, 13 200ml of beer pints, one 9mm pistol and one 303 rifle.

Lieutenant General Phahlane welcomed the arrests saying the operations will continue throughout the province during the festive season.

“These operations will include high visibility, roadblocks, suspect raiding and stop and search duties. Members of the public are urged to co-operate with security forces on the ground during this period and ensure that they are complying with the laws of the country,” he said. – SAnews.gov.za
