President appoints judges

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has appointed new judges to serve in various High Courts throughout the country. 

The appointments, the Presidency said on Thursday, were made in terms of section 174(6) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, and on the advice of the Judicial Service Commission. 

The appointments include:

-        Zamani Mswazi Nhlangulela as Deputy Judge President of the Eastern Cape Local Division of the High Court, Mthatha with effect from 1 January 2016 in an existing vacancy; 

-        Nombulawo Martha Mbhele as Judge of the Free State Division of the High Court, Bloemfontein, with effect from 1 January 2016 in an existing vacancy;

-        Celeste Reinders as Judge of the Free State Division of the High Court, Bloemfontein, with effect from 1 January 2016 in an existing vacancy;

-        Annali Christelle Basson from the Labour Court, as Judge of the Gauteng Division of the High Court, (Pretoria), with effect from 1 January 2016 in an existing vacancy;

-        Nelisa Phiwokazi Mali as Judge of the Gauteng Division of the High Court, (Pretoria), with effect from 1 January 2016 in an existing vacancy;

-        Raylene May Keightley as Judge of the Gauteng Local Division of the High Court, (Johannesburg), with effect from 1January 2016 in an existing vacancy;

-        Lebogang Temperance Modiba as Judge of the Gauteng Local Division of the High Court (Johannesburg), with effect from 1 January 2016 in an existing vacancy; 

-        Thifhelimbu Phanuel Mudau as Judge of the Gauteng Local Division of the High Court, (Johannesburg), with effect from 1 January 2016 in an existing vacancy;

-        Willem Hendrik Gabriel van der Linde SC as Judge of the Gauteng Local Division of the High Court (Johannesburg), with effect from 1 January 2016 in an existing vacancy; and

-        Mpho Catherine Mamosebo, Magistrate of Pretoria and Atteridgeville as Judge of the Northern Cape Division of the High Court, Kimberley, with effect from 1 January 2016 in an existing vacancy. 

The President has also, in terms of section 153(4) of the Labour Relations Act, 1995 (Act No. 66 of 1995), read with Schedule 2 of the Superior Courts Act, 2013 and acting on the advice of NEDLAC and the Judicial Service Commission, appointed: 

-        Christina Prinsloo as Judge of the Labour Court, with effect from 1 January 2016 in an existing vacancy; and

-        Edwin Tshidiso Tlhotlhalemaje as Judge of the Labour Court, with effect from 1 January 2016 in an existing vacancy.
