Pretoria - The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it is engaging with the relevant stakeholders over a date for paralympian Oscar Pistorius to appear in court.
“The NPA is engaging the relevant stakeholders to ensure that Mr Pistorius appears in court soon in order for the matter to be postponed formally to a date suitable for all parties for sentencing procedures. However, no court date has been confirmed,” the NPA said in a statement.
It also reiterated that no warrant has been issued.
“We further accept that a warrant of arrest is a legal instrument that is utilised to ensure that a person appears in court. However at this juncture, no warrant of arrest has been issued.”
Last week the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein overturned Pistorius's culpable homicide conviction to murder.
Last year, Judge Thokozile Masipa convicted Pistorius of culpable homicide and sentenced him to five years in jail after he shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013.
He was released on parole in October after serving less than a year of his sentence. - SAnews.gov.za
