SARS offices to open this weekend

Thursday, November 19, 2015

Pretoria - The offices of the South African Revenue Service (SARS) will open for the last time this weekend, ahead of the tax season deadline.

“This is the last Saturday when 25 SARS branch offices will extend working hours in anticipation of an increase in the number of taxpayers who require assistance with filing their returns,” said the revenue service on Wednesday.

Earlier this month, the revenue service announced that some of its branch offices would open their offices at the weekend. The tax season concludes on 27 November.

SARS said that in the last weekend, thousands of tax payers turned up at SARS offices in malls and cities to do their last minute submissions.

The purpose of the offices opening at the weekend is to assist taxpayers with their returns. The revenue service said taxpayers will only be assisted with issues relating to tax return submissions.

In the final run, the offices will be open from 8am – 1pm in 25 branches around the country.

To date, over 3.7 million taxpayers have filed their income tax returns in accordance with SARS’ forecasts. This is slightly more than last year.

SARS has urged all those who have not yet submitted a return to do so as soon as possible.

For a complete list of branches that will be open on 21 November 2015, taxpayers can visit the SARS website on www.sars.gov.za.
